As an Indian sports photographer, I’ve had the privilege of documenting some of the most inspiring moments in athletics. But few events resonate as deeply as the Athletics Kids Cup Regional Finals held at Priyadarshini Park, Mumbai, on January 12. It wasn’t just about competition—it was about the energy, passion, and raw joy of young athletes taking their first steps into the world of sports.

The Athletics Kids Cup (AKC), backed by UBS India, brings a globally successful format to Indian shores, giving children aged 7 to 15 the chance to compete in three core events—60m sprint, long jump, and ball throw. More than just a competition, AKC is a movement that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and discipline at a grassroots level.
A Day of Pure Athletic Joy
From the first starting gun to the last jump in the sand pit, every frame I captured told a story of determination. The sheer enthusiasm of these young athletes, their wide-eyed wonder, and the unwavering support from parents and coaches painted a powerful picture of what sport truly stands for—growth, resilience, and camaraderie.
The initiative also has the backing of Olympic gold medalist and world champion Neeraj Chopra, who serves as the official ambassador and advisor. His support helps inspire young athletes, reinforcing the belief that dreams can take flight with dedication and the right opportunities.

Beyond the Lens: Why Events Like These Matter
For many of these kids, this was their first competitive experience, and it was thrilling to witness how sport ignites something special in them. Unlike the pressure-laden arenas of elite competition, AKC is a celebration of effort over results. The joy of crossing the finish line, the thrill of a successful jump, the shared laughter between races—these are the real victories.
Photography is more than just capturing images—it’s about preserving emotions, moments, and legacies. As an Indian sports photographer, I saw future athletes, potential champions, and most importantly, kids discovering the love for movement.

A heartfelt thanks to Dspowerparts, UBS India, and Striders Miles for bringing this initiative to life in India, and to Neeraj Chopra for his support in encouraging young athletes. If the AKC finals in Mumbai were anything to go by, the future of Indian athletics looks incredibly promising.
Here’s to many more frames filled with passion, grit, and the unfiltered joy of sport.
